East End Light

East End Light  contains descriptions of six of Gosnell-Qua’s painting series, all of which are inspired by the east end of Long Island in New York.  See the progression of each series from original on-site watercolors to large oil paintings the artist completes in her studio.  There are art historical quotes and a statement about each series by the artist.  East End Light includes Gosnell-Qua’s Salt Marsh, Beaver Dam Creek, Tiana Bay, Beach Cactus, Rogers Bridge, and Moriches Bay Series.

Tiana Bay

Tiana Bay provides a view into the creative process of gestural oil painter, Margery Gosnell-Qua as she records her impressions in watercolors, oils, and collage of her young children learning to sail at Tiana Bay on the east end of Long Island in NY.  Outlining the development of the artist’s Tiana Bay Series from her early color studies painted in 2011 to her large scale studio oil paintings, paint, pattern, and shifting planes describe wind, water, and boats that tilt and navigate. Sailors travel out into the bay while their instructors follow in a small motorboat. Some works depict sunny days with calm water that reflects the sky. Other works show windy days with boats racing from shore.

The Bay Series

The Bay Series is a collection of paintings, drawings, and collages that depict the character of the barrier islands along Moriches Bay where the artist played and explored as a child. The motion of the scanning eye, multiple states, colored light are expressed in the movement of gestural paint, visual equivalents to the motion of the air, muted calls of birds, sounds of splashing water, smells of the salt and sea.
